Simple overview of casting

Casting is a method of plastic processing. In the early stage of casting, liquid monomer or prepolymer (see polymer) was injected into the mold under normal pressure, and then polymerized and solidified to form products with the same shape as the inner cavity of the mold. At the beginning of the 20th century, phenolic resin was first formed by casting.

In the mid-1930s, polymethyl methacrylate prepolymer was used to cast organic glass (see polymethyl methacrylate). During the Second World War, unsaturated polyester casting products were developed, followed by epoxy resin casting products. In the 1960s, nylon monomer casting (see polyamide) appeared. With the development of molding technology, the traditional casting concept has changed. Polymer solution, dispersion (referring to PVC paste) and melt can also be used for casting. Polypropylene film is prepared by extruding molten flat film with an extruder, casting it on a cooling drum, and shaping it. It is called extrusion casting method.
